Darren Cahill, Jannik Sinner’s coach, recently shared his insights on the upcoming Italian Open final between Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

There is huge anticipation for the final of the Rome Masters 1000 between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Not only will this match pit the two best exponents of men’s tennis against each other, but it will be a great way to see the level of both a week before the start of Roland Garros.

While this rivalry has already produced some truly epic matches, this is the first time the Italian and the Spaniard have faced each other in a Masters 1000 final. The surface should be more favorable to the game of the Spanish champion – who won Roland Garros last season and the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 this year – but the current world number 1 is dangerous even on these courts and has impressed in this tournament despite being back from a three-month break.

Cahill’s analysis

Jannik and Carlitos know each other really well and it will not be easy for either of them to find solutions that surprise the opponent. The player who wins will be the one who best imposes his game and makes the difference in the decisive moments.

Interviewed by ‘Sky Sports UK’ yesterday, Darren Cahill – Sinner’s coach – revealed the keys to the final: “When we arrived in Rome, our goal was to play at least 2-3 matches because we didn’t know how Jannik would react after this long stop. We have trained a lot in this period, but the feelings of official matches cannot be replicated. However, I think this work will pay off.”

The legendary Australian coach continued: “All the matches between Jannik and Carlos have always been very spectacular and balanced, because it is a match-up that allows them to give their best. The red clay could favor the Spaniard’s game, but Jannik knows how to put him in difficulty. A factor that should not be underestimated will be the weather conditions.”

Regardless of the result of this final, Carlos Alcaraz is already certain to return to second position in the ATP rankings from tomorrow. This means that he will not be able to face Sinner before a potential final in Paris.
