Brighton continue to grapple with injury challenges ahead of their Premier League clash against Wolves this Saturday.
Currently sitting fifth in the table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Newcastle last weekend, Brighton face a Wolves side still searching for their first win of the season, having taken just one point from eight matches and sitting at the bottom of the standings.
Brighton’s medical team will have their hands full this week, with several key players likely to miss the match. Danny Welbeck (back), Solly March (knee), Matt O’Riley (ankle), Adam Webster (thigh), and Joao Pedro (ankle) are all expected to be sidelined, while winger Yankuba Minteh remains a doubt due to a muscular issue.
Adding to Brighton’s woes, veteran midfielder James Milner will also miss the Wolves game. The 38-year-old, who started Albion’s first three Premier League matches this season, picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in August. Initially thought to be a minor issue, Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler revealed Milner has suffered a setback and is now expected to be out for “several weeks.”
“He had a small setback,” Hürzeler explained before the Newcastle win. “It’s not as positive as it was before the international break. We have to be patient. It’s not something that will be resolved in one or two weeks, it will take several weeks. We can’t provide a clear timeline for his return, but we were more optimistic before the break.”
Regarding Solly March’s recovery, Hürzeler added: “We need to give him time. After such a long injury, recovery is not a straight line, but more like waves – there will be ups and downs. Solly understands this, and he’s handling it well both mentally and physically. He has the right mindset, and while we need to be patient, I’m confident he’s on the right path.”
